Botox®

Botox

Botox is one of the most popular, non-invasive cosmetic treatments worldwide. Many men and women receive Botox treatments to help remove unwanted facial wrinkles along with other medical problems. At Sculpt MD every client is different in what look they are trying to achieve. Dr Samra focuses on creating a natural and refreshed look for his clients.

What is Botox?

Botox is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines and wrinkles. Scientifically speaking, Botox® is a neurotoxin from Clostridium botulinum which is an organism found in our natural earth environment. Botox, as a result, blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that cause your muscles to contract. Furthermore Botox reduces your fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles and smoothing out the skin.

Botox has been used by celebrities as a cosmetic treatment to help them look younger and more vibrant. Throughout our lives, the constant use of our facial muscles create facial expressions as a result these expressions result in lines and wrinkles all around our skin. Patients who seek Botox are looking to eliminate those lines and wrinkles we all commonly recognize. How Botox works is that it achieves results by temporarily immobilizing the muscles beneath our skin folds and reduces wrinkles.

Botox Procedure

Before your Botox treatment, the area that will be treated will be cleaned. Your physician will determine the placement of each injection based on the size and depth of the crease or wrinkle being treated. Several injections to a specific area may be required to effectively treat the area.

This procedure requires no anesthesia or sedation. It can take between 10-15 minutes to perform with minimal discomfort, varying based on the number of areas being treated and the size. You will be able to discuss with your doctor if you want to treat a single area or more than one when you go in for treatment.

Recovery

Initially, you may experience a slight redness or temporary swelling after your procedure. This tends to fade within 24 hours, but you will not be inhibited from resuming your normal daily activities. It is important to not rub or massage the areas that were treated as it may cause the substance to migrate elsewhere.

Some may experience a mild bruising in the treated area, mostly those who bruise easily. You can also prevent bruising by avoiding Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications prior to your treatment.

Results

It can take between 7 to 10 days to see the results, while about 3 days post-treatment you can see improvements in the appearance of any fine lines or wrinkles. By targeting specific areas, lines and wrinkles can be eliminated for 3-4 months without interfering with normal facial function. To maintain your results, it is important to keep up with regularly schedule appointments. Most patients return for touch ups as they start to see fine lines forming again.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re wondering if you’re too young or too old, there is no age limit for Botox®. If you have the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your forehead, around the eyes, around the lips, on the sides of the nose, on your chin, or any other facial location, you are most likely a candidate for Botox®.

You should consult Sculpt MD to see if Botox® is right for you. We have a free consultation to allow you to talk with our doctor about your concerns and how we can help you!

Botox® injections should only be done by a medical professional. Here at Sculpt MD, we offer you a highly skilled, board certified staff to perform your Botox® procedure. We take all the necessary steps and precautions in order to yield the best and rewarding results.

As soon as your wrinkles return, you can have Botox® again. There is no limit to the number of injections you can have, however, the body’s immune system is capable of developing antibodies to the Botox molecule which can make it ineffective. We all are familiar with celebrities that have gotten “too much” Botox®, but rest assured at Sculpt MD that we would not let you overdue it and we would keep a healthy amount of treatments tailored to your lifestyle.

The cost of Botox® treatments will depend on where you are looking to treat on your face and the amount of treatments you will undergo. At Sculpt MD, we will schedule a consultation to go over your needs as a patient and inform you of the procedures to follow. We also have CareCredit, which allows you to spread your payments for your treatment over a given period of time.

Some of the minor side effects that fade within a day or so are slight redness in the treated area or temporary swelling. You can experience bruising if you easily bruise, but this can be helped by avoiding any anti-inflammatory medications, such as advil.

A very small percentage of patients may develop a droopy upper eyelid with the treatment of the forehead/brow area, but it will resolve within a few weeks. This is usually a result of the Botox® migrating down towards the eye. To prevent this, it is important to see a highly experienced doctor and not rub the area of treatment for at least 12 hours after your procedure. At Sculpt MD, we can guarantee a trained physician, but only you can prevent it further by avoiding rubbing.

The actual Botox® as a medication is not painful, but rather the only pain you may experience is the needle. This is just a mild pricking as it is not a large needle. Applying an icepack to numb the area can help numb the discomfort, but the procedure only lasts 10-15 minutes.

When injected properly by a physician at Sculpt MD, the results can be seen 2 to 4 days when the muscles weakening takes place. The maximum results will be seen 7 to 10 days after your treatment and your results lasts 3 to 4 months.
