BOTOX is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines and wrinkles. Scientifically speaking, BOTOX is a neurotoxin from Clostridium botulinum, which is an organism found in our natural earth environment. What does recovery entail?

Initially, you may experience a slight redness or temporary swelling after your procedure. This tends to fade within 24 hours, but you will not be inhibited from resuming your normal daily activities. It is important to not rub or massage the areas that were treated as it may cause the substance to migrate elsewhere.

Some may experience a mild bruising in the treated area, mostly those who bruise easily. You can also prevent bruising by avoiding Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications prior to your treatment.

What will my results be like?

It can take between 7 to 10 days to see the results, while about 3 days post-treatment you can see improvements in the appearance of any fine lines or wrinkles. By targeting specific areas, lines and wrinkles can be eradicated for 3-4 months without interfering with normal facial function. To maintain your results, it is important to keep up with regularly scheduled appointments. Most patients return for touch ups as they start to see fine lines forming again.

Is BOTOX safe?

BOTOX injections should only be done by a medical professional. Here at Sculpt MD, we offer you a highly-skilled, board certified internal medicine staff to perform your BOTOX procedure. We take all the necessary steps and precautions in order to yield the best and rewarding results.

How many times can you have BOTOX?

As soon as your wrinkles return, you can have BOTOX again. There is no limit to the number of injections you can have; however, the body’s immune system is capable of developing antibodies to the BOTOX molecule, which can make it ineffective. We all are familiar with celebrities that have gotten “too much” BOTOX, but rest assured at Sculpt MD we will not let you overdo it. We keep a healthy amount of treatments tailored to your lifestyle.

What are the side effects of BOTOX?

Some of the minor side effects that fade within a day or so are slight redness in the treated area or temporary swelling. You can experience bruising if you easily bruise, but this can be helped by avoiding any anti-inflammatory medications, such as Advil.

A very small percentage of patients may develop a droopy upper eyelid with the treatment of the forehead/brow area, but it will resolve within a few weeks. This is usually a result of the BOTOX migrating down towards the eye. To prevent this, it is important to see a highly experienced doctor and not rub the area of treatment for at least 12 hours after your procedure. At Sculpt MD, we can guarantee a trained physician, but only you can prevent it further by avoiding rubbing.

Is BOTOX painful?

The actual BOTOX as a medication is not painful, but rather the only pain you may experience is the needle. This is just a mild pricking as it is not a large needle. Applying an icepack to numb the area can help numb the discomfort. The entire procedure only lasts 10-15 minutes.

Will BOTOX results last?

When injected properly by a physician at Sculpt MD, the results can be seen in 2 to 4 days. The maximum results will be seen 7 to 10 days after your treatment and your results typically last 3 to 4 months.
