PDGF+ Pre & Post Care Instructions
Pre-care instructions to optimize PRP / PRF results:
1. Medications & Supplements to Avoid (7–10 days before)
Certain drugs can affect platelet function or increase bleeding/bruising:
- NSAIDs: Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), aspirin
- Steroids: Both oral and injected corticosteroids (they can reduce platelet activity)
- Blood thinners: Warfarin, heparin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, etc. (only stop if cleared by your physician)
- Supplements that thin the blood:
- Fish oil / Omega-3s
- Vitamin E
- Garlic, Ginkgo biloba, Ginseng, Turmeric
- Alcohol (limit or avoid 48 hours prior)
2. Hydration
- Be well-hydrated for several days before your appointment. Platelet yield and quality improve when you’re hydrated (since blood is easier to draw and process). Aim for at least 2 liters of water per day for 2–3 days prior.
3. Nutrition
- Eat a healthy, balanced diet rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and proteins. Your platelets rely on these nutrients to release growth factors.
- Avoid processed sugars, trans fats, and excessive alcohol, they can create systemic inflammation that blunts regenerative response.
4. Avoid Smoking and Vaping
- Nicotine constricts blood vessels and reduces oxygenation, diminishing PRP/PRF efficacy. Ideally, stop at least 1 week before and after treatment.
5. No Recent Injections or Procedures
- Avoid Botox, fillers, or other skin treatments in the area for at least 2 weeks prior (depending on the site being treated).
- For joint or musculoskeletal PRP/PRF: avoid corticosteroid injections for at least 4 weeks beforehand.
6. Rest & Recovery Prep
- Get adequate sleep and manage stress before treatment, platelet activity and healing are linked to systemic stress hormones.
- Plan a light schedule post-treatment: you might have mild soreness, swelling, or tightness for a day or two.
7. Day of Procedure
- Eat a light meal beforehand, don’t come fasting unless instructed.
- Drink 1–2 glasses of water before arrival.
- Avoid makeup, lotions, or hair products (for scalp PRP/PRF).
