Microneedling with PRP
Platelet Rich Plasma
Sculpt MD offers Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to customers who are looking for non-surgical hair restoration or a non-invasive procedure to improve the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, age spots, fine lines, or wrinkles.
As more people look for ways to keep their skin or hair looking healthy and young without an invasive surgical procedure, microneedling with PRP is a great treatment option which takes advantage of your body’s own healing power. Microneedling with PRP is a non-invasive skin resurfacing procedure that can help adjust hyperpigmentation, lax skin, sun damage, large pores, or uneven skin.

What is Microneedling with PRP?
Microneedling with PRP is the combination of two procedures done simultaneously: Microneedling and PRP. When the two procedures are combined, it results in a facial and hair rejuvenation treatment that can leave behind a younger looking you!
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, involves a small, hand-held device with tiny micro-needles. It passes over the skin, creating tiny channels, or micro-wounds, on the skin. The micro-wounds trigger the production of new collagen and elastin, including new capillaries to improve blood supply. The creation of these micro-wounds can also allow topical products to penetrate the skin deeper than they normally would. The skins ability to utilize the nutrients in the products increases up to 3,000%.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is obtained from an individual’s own blood. After a single blood sample is taken, the blood sample is spun in a centrifuge for 15 minutes to separate platelets from the blood. The PRP can be injected into the skin or via Microneedling.
PRP is full of growth factors that can help in the repair of tissue. FGF and PDGF, both growth factors found in platelets, promote cell growth, tissue repair, and the production of new collagen. PRP also contains stem cells which can induce collagen production.
Growth Factors Found in PRP
- FGF (fibroblast growth factor): tissue repair, cell growth, collagen production
- PDGF (platelet derived growth factor): cell growth, new generation and repair of blood vessels, collagen production
- VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor): growth and new generation of vascular endothelial cells
- TGF-B (transforming growth factor betal): growth of epithelial cells, endothelial cells, promotion of wound healing
- KGF (keratinocyte growth factor): growth and new generation of keratinocytes
- EGF (epidermal growth factor): promotion of epithelial cell growth, angiogenesis, promotion of wound healing
SkinPen® and Eclipse at Sculpt MD
Here at Sculpt MD, we use the SkinPen® by Bellus Medical during the Microneedling portion of the procedure. It is a small, handheld tool with the tiny micro-needles that allow the micro-wounds to be created. Unlike traditional derma-rollers, SkinPen® was engineered to not bend, break, or rust so the patient won’t get an infection or scarring from use. Its ergonomic design allows the doctors at Sculpt MD to treat the areas that are difficult to reach with traditional microneedling derma-rollers.
Sculpt MD uses Eclipse PRP and their proprietary PRP kit and system when obtaining the PRP sample. This system allows for the preparation of pure PRP with optimal concentrations and cellular content which mean’s more nutrients to help improve your results. It involves fewer steps than other kits, takes less than 30 minutes, and allows for various volumes and concentration levels to meet your needs and your procedure’s needs.
Microneedling with PRP Procedure
Since your treatment is essentially the combination of two trending facial rejuvenation procedures, we do them together in one sum period. During the Microneedling portion of the treatment, the SkinPen® will be gently passed over the skin to create the tiny channels on the skin. This will allow the body’s natural response for wound healing to take place, which will produce collagen and elastin. Depending on the size of the area, this can take only 30 minutes.
The second part of the procedure will be the application of the PRP. It will be applied directly to the channels created during the Microneedling process to further stimulate the natural healing process and creation of collagen your body produces. This will mean an overall enhancement in growth factors your body naturally produces. This process can also take about 30 minutes, meaning one treatment will take about 60 minutes on average.
Since Microneedling with PRP does not break down the epidermis that means there is no scarring and no down time! Your skin may be slightly pink and feel similar to a mild sunburn, but you can return to your normal activities. For most patients, the skin recovers in 24-72 hours. Following the treatment, it is important to stay out of the sun and protect the skin with a high SPF Sunscreen since the skin will be sensitive to UV rays.
The body’s collagen production will take about 4-8 weeks, during which time you will continue to see improvements. Additional treatments may be required. Here at Sculpt MD, we sit with you to discuss your treatments, the amount you will have, and a skin care regimen.

Frequently Asked Questions
Microneedling with PRP is a natural and safe procedure performed on all different types of people regardless of the type of skin you may have. It is a great alternative for those who are looking to find a non-surgical procedure that can give them a youthful look and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and even restore hair.
You should consult your physician if Microneedling is right for you if you have recently gone through radiation skin treatment in the last year or suffered any skin infections in the area of concern. The best way to find out if you’re a candidate is to come to Sculpt MD for a consultation.
Microneedling with PRP can be tailored to your individual needs and goals for your skin. The cost of the procedure will vary based on those needs related to how many treatments you will need to have performed. Sculpt MD schedules a initial consultation to approach these needs and create a treatment plan for you.
There are no negative side effects that result from Microneedling with PRP. Your skin may be slightly pink and feel a little sunburned after the procedure, but this is a common result to your body healing the wounds created by the micro-needles. Your skin should completely recover in 24-72 hours depending on your bodies healing process.
Your treatments will depend on the areas you are trying to fix, how many, and the size of those areas. Microneedling can be repeated from 4 to 6 weeks with at least 3 treatments spaced over a four-week period. Some scar reduction may require 3 to 6 treatments.
You may feel a slight prickling during the procedure on your skin, but many patients report the treatment being a lot less painful than they thought it would be.
One syringe of blood has enough PRP inside to treat the whole face.
