Glutathione: What It Is and How It Works

Unlocking the Super Antioxidant’s Benefits for Health, Energy, and Skin

By Dr. David Cruz, ND

At SculptMD, we’re committed to offering treatments that support not just your appearance but your overall wellness. One standout nutrient we offer is Glutathione, often referred to as the “master antioxidant” and for good reason.

What Is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant naturally produced in the body. It plays a vital role in protecting your cells from damage caused by free radicals, toxins, and oxidative stress. In other words, it helps slow down the aging process from the inside out. But that’s not all, it also supports detoxification, immune function, and even skin health.

What Does Glutathione Do?

  • Protects Against Free Radical Damage: As a super antioxidant, glutathione defends your cells from oxidative stress, helping to prevent chronic illness and premature aging.
  • Brightens and Evens Skin Tone: Glutathione inhibits the production and clumping (agglutination) of melanin, making it a popular treatment for those seeking skin brightening or evening of hyperpigmentation.
  • Supports Detox & Energy: Regular supplementation has been associated with improved liver function, increased energy, and better gut health, what we like to call the 3 B’s: Brains, Bowels, and Beauty.
  • Boosts Immunity & Mental Clarity: It enhances immune response and has even been linked to improved cognitive function.

The Connection Between Glutathione and Disease

Interestingly, elevated levels of gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) an enzyme related to glutathione, may signal a deficiency. Low glutathione levels have been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, highlighting its role in long term health.

Our Treatment Approach at SculptMD We offer glutathione through IV therapy, often combined with vitamin B12 for an added health boost.

Why Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 supports:

  • Nervous system health
  • Red blood cell production
  • Metabolism and energy levels

How Often Should You Get Glutathione Treatments?

For most patients, we recommend the following protocol:

  • IV Push: Once or twice per week for 1 to 3 months, depending on your goals.
  • Maintenance: Once or twice monthly, especially for skin-brightening purposes, to maintain results and prevent pigmentation from returning.

For those who prefer an alternative method, we also offer intramuscular (IM) injections, administered three times per week.

What to expect from the visit and how to prepare for it?

Before starting your visit we recommend arriving as hydrated as possible for the IV.

To start the Glutathione IV push first we need to complete a venipuncture. The actual glutathione IV procedure lasts from 8 to 10 minutes. But the visit can last from 15 to 20 minutes depending on how fast, easy or hard getting a viable vein is.

After the procedure is completed, you can continue your day as normal.

Ready to Experience the Benefits?

Whether you’re looking to brighten your skin, detox your system, or boost your overall vitality, glutathione may be the key. Schedule a consultation at SculptMD today to find out if it’s right for you.
