SkinPen Microneedling – Pre & Post Care Instructions
Pre-Treatment Care (Starting 5–7 Days Before Treatment)
To prepare your skin and minimize sensitivity:
- Avoid retinoids, tretinoin, adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, and exfoliating products
- Avoid laser treatments, chemical peels, waxing, or other aggressive skin treatments in the area
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning (including self-tanner)
- Discontinue blood-thinning supplements if approved by your provider (fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric, NSAIDs)
- Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to treatment
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, lotions, or sunscreen
Please notify us prior to treatment if you:
- Have active acne, infection, rash, cold sore, or open skin in the treatment area
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of poor wound healing
What to Expect on Treatment Day
- Topical numbing cream will be applied for comfort
- Treatment typically lasts 30–45 minutes depending on the area
- Skin will appear red and feel warm, similar to a sunburn
Post-Treatment Care (First 24–72 Hours)
Immediately after treatment and over the next few days:
- Expect redness, warmth, mild swelling, and tightness for 24–72 hours
- Use only gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen (SPF 30+)
- Apply any post-procedure serums provided as directed
- Avoid makeup for 24 hours
- Avoid exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers for 24–48 hours
- Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate the skin
Skin Care Restrictions (Days 3–7)
- Continue avoiding retinoids, exfoliants, acids, and active ingredients
- Avoid direct sun exposure and always use sunscreen
- Skin may feel dry or lightly flake—this is normal
Results & Treatment Series
- Skin texture and brightness often improve within 1–2 weeks
- Collagen remodeling continues for 8–12 weeks
- For optimal results, a series of treatments may be recommended, spaced 4–6 weeks apart
When to Contact Us
Please contact Sculpt MD if you experience:
- Increasing pain, swelling, or redness after 72 hours
- Signs of infection (pus, fever, worsening tenderness)
- Any concerns about healing
