PDGF+ Pre & Post Care Instructions
Pre-Treatment Instructions for PDGF+ Injections or Microneedling
To ensure the best results and minimize side effects, please follow these guidelines before your procedure:
5–7 Days Before Treatment
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), aspirin, and naproxen (Aleve).
- Ideally, continue to avoid these for 3–4 weeks after the procedure as well.
- Do not take certain supplements including Turmeric/Curcumin, Arnica, and Ginkgo Biloba before or after treatment, as these may increase bruising or bleeding.
- Discontinue retinol and exfoliants (including glycolic or salicylic acids).
24 Hours Before Treatment
- Hydrate well by drinking plenty of water to help with overall healing.
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning to protect your skin.
Day of Treatment
- Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotions, sunscreen, or any skincare products.
- Wear comfortable clothing if treating the body.
Post-Treatment Instructions for PDGF+ Injections
What to Expect
- Bruising, swelling, redness, and numbness are normal and may last up to several weeks after injection.
- Pain hypersensitivity may occur due to PDGF’s influence on nerve excitability, sometimes felt as numbness. This is temporary and will resolve.
Average Post-Treatment Healing Timeline
Time After Injection |
What’s Happening |
0–10 days |
Bruising, mild swelling, redness, and sometimes numbness due to local nerve signaling changes. |
1–3 weeks |
Fibroblast activation begins with signaling and initial tissue repair and remodeling of the scaffold surrounding cells. |
4–8 weeks |
Collagen thickening occurs, leading to improved skin texture, plumpness and tone. |
8–12 weeks |
Peak visible results are seen as collagen remodeling continues. |
9–12 months |
Gradual decline of results; maintenance treatments may be needed. |
*Individual results may vary*
What to Do
- Keep head elevated: Sleep slightly propped up the first night to help minimize swelling.
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to support healing and skin regeneration.
- Use gentle skincare: Stick with mild cleansers and moisturizers for 24–48 hours after treatment.
What to Avoid
- No touching or massaging: Avoid touching, pressing, or rubbing the injection sites for at least 24 hours.
- Avoid ice packs: Swelling is expected and icing aggressively can disrupt the inflammation process that is beneficial to your results. If swelling is severe, you may ice 5 min at a time the day after.Â
- Avoid makeup: Skip makeup for the first 12–24 hours to lower infection risk.
- No alcohol, caffeine, or salty foods: These can worsen swelling and bruising.
- No strenuous activity: Avoid heavy exercise, hot yoga, saunas, or steam rooms for 24–48 hours.
- Avoid direct sunlight/tanning beds: Treated areas may be more sensitive—always use SPF if outdoors.
Follow-Up
- Return in 6-8 weeks for evaluation and retreatment if needed.
- Mild swelling or bruising should resolve within a few weeks.
- Results typically improve over several weeks as collagen production increases (usually noticeable by 8 weeks).
